Villa Upama - Location

Attracting artisans and holiday makers since the early 1930's, Sanur remains the chosen destination for well-heeled travellers as well as many expatriate residents and consuls. Long appreciated for its seven kilometre protected white sand beach and laid back ambiance, the village offers every conceivable type of water sport in the safe confines of a protected lagoon shielded from the Indian Ocean's swells.

Unlike other tourist destinations in Bali, village residents have had many years to slowly integrate tourism into their way of life allowing traditional village life to co-exist with tourist activities. Holding a special place in Balinese culture, the village of Sanur offers visitors a tantalising glimpse into Bali's famous culture without straying far from some of Bali's best loved restaurants and interesting retail outlets.

Rise early to catch the fishing fleet set sail from the beach as the sun rises on the horizon, wander along the shaded promenade to sit with the locals and sip a cooling fresh fruit juice, take a massage on the beach under the fronds of the coconut palms, visit one of the many spas or join in one of the ceremonies that occur almost daily in the village's holy temples just a short walk from the villa. The options are endless.

Many Sanur visitors find they rarely leave the environs of the village. However, Sanur is only a 15 minute drive from the airport, 30 minutes from the vibrant arts and crafts village of Ubud and 20 minutes and a million miles from the nightlife of Kuta, Legian and Seminyak.

When you live in paradise you do all you can to keep it that way. Villa Upama has been carefully designed to have the minimum cultural and environmental impact on this beautiful tropical island. Originally constructed as the show villa for Bali's premier villa development, The Mertasari, the residence and its gardens showcase all that is original and exceptional about Bali; its architectural traditions and its lush tropical environment. One of the main design criteria that shaped the this benchmark villa is that the house and garden are one. Therefore, every care has been made to blend the architecture seamlessly into the landscape and ensure that residents are always reminded of the wonders of this beautiful and verdant tropical island.

The design is both traditional and organic with curving walls, traditional copper shingled pitched roofs and hanging gardens. Boasting three bedrooms all with their own dressing rooms and bathrooms, the villa has over 1000 m2 (10,000 square feet) of living space that is permanently cool and inviting.

The eye-catching, award winning design and abundance of living space melt seamlessly into the traditional Balinese garden with its reflections pools, lotus ponds, statues and wall niches that create an ever unfolding space that begs exploration. A large organic shaped natural swimming pool is the first of its kind in Bali and offers a swimming environment that is both healthy and invigorating.

The villa is serviced by a full time staff of ten including manager, chef and chauffeur. It has its own wine cellar, cigar divan, movie theatre, library, bar and spa. Our service is defined by personality. It is an ever evolving style that adapts to your every whim and desire, delivered by one of the warmest people on earth.

The core of the service philosophy, created by one of the island's most experienced management teams, is to provide ultimate flexibility to you, the guest. It is designed to let you opt into as many of the on‐site and off-site facilities and services as you require.

Through the villa's concierge service you can choose from a range of services before arrival, during your stay and after your departure. The options are limitless; the only boundary is your imagination. The villa has a staff pool that includes room service, floor service, in‐house maintenance and security, catering and an off-site spa team that are on call throughout the day and night. The concierge team can design anything that tickles your whim and take pleasure in the challenges of presented by the most discerning guests.

Villa Upama - Accommodation Facilities

The villa accommodates six to eight guests in three bedrooms. Two doubles rooms and a twin bedroom with pull-out beds for an extra two children. Each bedroom has a private dressing room with cedar-lined wardrobes to ensure a perfect climate for storage of clothes, and a private bathroom and lavatory with the highest quality fittings and amenities. All bedrooms and dressing areas are air-conditioned and boast fully integrated entertainment systems with flat screen televisions; HD DVD players with movie surround sound and high speed in‐room internet all linked the villa's home entertainment server.

The spaces are warm, light and airy and are controlled by an intelligent home system that sets ligtinh ambiance, in-room music and entertainment, air-conditioning and curtain control. Each room boats are large outside terrace and private garden.

Villa Upama - Garden Suite

Set across the garden from the main house this self contained suite offers over 100 m2 (1000 square feet) of space. With private terrace and meditation area the suite has a reclaimed teak floor and barrel vaulted coconut-clad ceiling that add natural warmth to the room. With fully integrated home entertainment system and a television that folds automatically into the ceiling, the suit is airy, light and surrounded by lush tropical landscaping and fish ponds. 

The suite has a private dressing room with make-up table that leads onto one of the most inspiring bathrooms ever built. The bathroom is set in its own private garden with a hand-carved marble bath that floats in its own fish pond under its own vine-draped pergola. The bathroom has fully integrated surround sound audio, two marble sinks, private lavatory and rain shower. 

Villa Upama - Master Suite

Located on the second floor under the Lombok-inspired conical roof the bedroom features a domed ceiling and curved windows offering a 270o east facing view. A king sized four‐poster bed sits in the centre of the room under a bespoke chrysanthemum-shaped copper light feature. The bedroom leads directly onto the open planned bathroom and dressing area with its own private garden. Featuring a sunken marble bath, rain shower, twin washbasins and floor to ceiling west‐facing glass sliding doors opening onto the private garden; the fully air-conditioned space is bold in design while at the same time being warm and relaxing. 

Villa Upama - Twin Suite

Located next to the Master Suite on the second floor, the twin suite offers a panoramic easterly view across its own private east facing terrace and garden. Featuring large twin beds with two further pull-out beds underneath, the room can be utilised as a comfortable suite for both adults and children alike. The dressing room leads into the terrazzo bathroom featuring twin washbasins, bathtub and rain shower with westerly facing floor to ceiling sliding doors opening onto a private garden. 

Villa Upama - Reception Room

Designed to fully open onto the adjoining terrace the space is furnished with two large sofas for formal entertaining. Designed to remain cool and well ventilated when teh sliding doors are open the space is also fully air-conditioned. With a view through the terrace towards the pool, the comfortable space, like the rest of the villa, is a treasure-trove of objets d'art from the various islands of Indonesia. 

Villa Upama - Entertainment Room and Movie Theatre

Hidden behind the main reception room in its own sound insulated room the entertainment room house the villa's main server which features a ten thousand gigabyte hard drive loaded with the latest movies, television series and music. With a large round banquet sofa swathed in cushions the semi-circular room features a surround sound digital sound system designed to offer cinema quality entertainment in a perfectly air-conditioned environment. 

Villa Upama - Library, Study, Bar and Cigar Divan

Adjoining the main reception room behind another hidden entrance is an area designed for the dual requirements of privacy and entertaining. The large desk and chaise long in the study face east overlooking the pool and gardens and offer a fully equipped study and work space with a large, well stocked library. However, spin the book shelves 180o to reveal a well‐stocked wet‐bar and private cigar divan located on the other side. 

Villa Upama - Dining Room and Kitchen

The round dining room can seat ten around a large round table. With floor to ceiling glass sliding doors the space can be fully opened to enable open air-dining or closed and air-conditioned. Leading directly onto the open-plan air-conditioned kitchen with its breakfast bar, integrated espresso/cappuccino machine and cooking appliances; the space blends seamlessly together to offer an area ideal for large events or cosy private dinners.

Villa Upama - Wine Cellar, Service Area and Wet Kitchen

Leading off the main service kitchen is a hidden door that leads below ground to a replica French Cave with stone-clad barrel vaulted ceiling and well stocked floor to ceiling wine racks. Kept at a perfect storage temperature, the villa's wine selection offers something for all tastes and occasions. Behind the main kitchen is a large service area that accommodates the back-of-house facilities. With plenty of storage, an fully equipped professional kitchen, laundry room, plant and generator room and staff accommodation, the area has been designed to ensure the smooth running of all the villa while keeping this area separate from the residents.

• All rates inclusive of government tax and service
• The maximum number of guests must be no more than a total of six persons
• Check -In time at 14.00 and Check Out Time 12.00
• Late check out : 50 % charge of contracted rate for late check‐out until 18.00 and subject to availablity
